T-Shirt Recipe

Ingredients:

  • An Idea
  • a pinch of inspiration
  • 1 Sketchbook
  • A pack of colors
  • Fabric Lexicon
  • 2 sheets of paper
  • 1 Ruler Set
  • Measurement Chart
  • Grading Software (optional)
  • Tailor’s Chalk
  • Scissors
  • approx. 10 pins
  • 100 m sewing thread
  • 1-3 sewing machines
  • 1 m fabric
  • 1/2 liter water and 1 iron

Step 1: Bringing Inspiration and Design to Paper
Develop the idea and add a pinch of inspiration. Think hard and mix everything together. Transfer the mixture to the sketchbook with a pencil. Add colors for more flavor. Let the mixture rest for 24 hours.

Step 2: From Sketch to Pattern
Unroll 2 sheets of paper. Using the ruler set and measurement chart, transfer the pattern to the paper. To be able to serve variations and different sizes later, grading software can be used.

Step 3: Finding the Right Fabric
Take the fabric lexicon and search for suitable fabrics. Important: Pay attention to origin, delivery times, and environmental labels. For a roll width of 1.40 m, approx. 1 m of fabric is needed. Wash fabric before use to avoid later shrinkage.

Step 4: Transferring the Pattern to Fabric
Transfer the pattern to the fabric using tailor’s chalk. Add a 1 cm seam allowance. Cut the fabric into pieces with scissors and lift them out.

Step 5: Assembling the Pieces
All pieces are now pinned together – right sides facing. Then thread the sewing machine and sew the pieces together. Depending on the seam, the designated sewing machine is used. Plan at least 3 hours of working time.

Step 6: Finishing the T-Shirt
Iron seams open, attach label, and hang on a hanger. Sell the T-shirt for 5 Euros.
