The Tale of the Forgotten Fabric

Sometimes fabrics write their very own stories – and sometimes we tell them for them. This vest began as a forgotten linen fabric and an old skirt that lay unnoticed in the closet for years. Only through a little imagination, a few colorful experiments, and many stitches were the two allowed to come back to life – and transform into a new garment that is more than just fabric: a small fairy tale in the form of a vest.

Once upon a time, there was a white linen fabric; for years it lay in a closet and would weep. It was locked away alone in the dark for so long, and no one recognized its worth.

One day, an old man heard the sobbing from the closet; he took the fabric out and sat down with it on a bench. Then the fabric said it finally wanted to live, it finally wanted to dance and float again. The old man listened attentively, and then he remembered an interview. There, a girl spoke of self-made clothes; perhaps she could sew something from this sad fabric? Excitedly, he ran to the other end of the settlement and to the girl; suddenly, everything made sense.

The girl took the fabric and heard its lament, then she retreated to her chamber. There she also heard an old skirt crying from the chest; she went to it and asked for its forgiveness. It too had been lying around in the closet for far too long – oh, that was really silly. The girl placed the old skirt next to the linen fabric, and the two fell in love instantly. Now it was clear what they were to become: a garment for celebration – oh yes, that will be great! Out of sheer joy, the white fabric jumped into the washing machine, and it bubbled with joy. It turned brown and red, coloring the fabric, exactly as it had always wanted to be. Immediately after, the fabric and the skirt were cut and pieced together, then mended with thread. Now the two fabrics shone like never before, for a vest emerged from them! The moral of the story? After every dark night, light returns.
